Creative Marketing
My first exposure to drug propaganda was through the “C.H.I.C.K.E.N. Club” in grade 4. This was an acronym for “Cool, Honest, Intelligent, Clear-headed, Keen, Energetic and Not interested in drugs”… a Canadian type D.A.R.E. Program, if you will.
The Milton Hilton
I grew up on a farm in Milton, just outside of Toronto, Ontario. We called our farm “The Milton Hilton”; a veritable bed and breakfast. I had loving parents who instilled a good work ethic in me. Our farm was near the Burlington Executive Airport, where astronaut Chris Hadfield first took flight. This is what my farm looks like today.
Always speaking my mind, I won several awards at public speaking competitions, including the Optimist Club. The Optimist Oratorical Contest gives more than $150,000 in college scholarships funded by the Optimist International Foundation.
The Hidden Jungle & Spiritual Smoke
Education
While studying advertising at Mohawk College, an early assignment was to create an practice advertising agency, which I called Causmo Effect Concepts.
The core of the Advertising program was art direction, copywriting, layout design, basics of photography, graphic design and idea generation techniques.
15 years later, I enrolled in the Science of Cannabis continuing education course at McMaster University, this class clown got an 89% average.
Up In Smoke Cafe
2003 was a significant time in Canadian cannabis history. My friend Chris Goodwin and I worked hard on that Summer of Legalization Tour. After graduating from Mohawk, I became involved in a more significant way; the Up in Smoke Cafe was born.
The cafe was ahead of its time. Respect to all the dispensaries, consumption spaces and responsible adults who’ve taken a risk in this business. Chris went on to other great things like Hash Mob Media.
A Model Hemployee
In 2019 I worked as Regional Manager of the Cannabis Supply Company, a chain of medical clinics in Southern Ontario. The CSC now sells AGCO licensed retail cannabis. As per the 2021 Ontario Cannabis Store Report, Cannabis Supply Co ranked ninth in the top ten retailers by store count.
Living the Dream!
I’m now back on the farm, running a 420 friendly business near Sauble Beach. Dreamers Creative Writing is a magazine publisher and AirBnB writer’s retreat. My wife Kat and I are building a lifestyle brand and media company dedicated to heartfelt writing. Please visit writingfarm.ca.
